Frequently Asked Questions
What is Ballistic Nylon?
Ballistic nylon is a thick, tough, synthetic nylon fabric used for a variety of applications. Ballistic nylon was originally used as a material for flak jackets to be worn by World War II airmen. The term ballistic nylon takes its name from the fact that it was intended to protect its wearers from flying debris and fragmentation caused by bullet or artillery shell impacts.
Cordura vs. Ballistic
There are two significant technical differences between cordura and ballistic nylon. First, ballistic is a "filament" yard, vs cordura which is texturized. This means ballistic nylon yarns are smooth & slick; cordura yarns are slightly fuzzy, actually discontinuous, more like a natural fiber. This gives cordura somewhat higher abrasion resistance, while the ballistic has higher tear strength. However, in both fabrics the tear strength and the abrasion resistance are so much higher than necessary, the end-user will seldom if ever experience any difference between cordura and ballistic. The other technical difference is that ballistic is two-ply weave, which means two yarns are woven as one. This mostly impacts the look of the fabric, not so much its utility, but it pretty much is what people like about ballistic nylon.
What makes your dog beds so durable?
What makes our beds so tough is the fact that we are using ballistic nylon and tested construction applications. Ballistic nylon has increased abrasion and puncture resistance by multiples over standard cotton canvas, polyester and nylon. This material combined with construction techniques such as removing zippers, moving the closures to the underside of the bed out of your dogs reach, and reinforcing the corners from the inside helps to increase the life of our beds.
Are your dog bed “Chew Proof”?
We promote our dog beds as the most chew “resistant “on the market. Nothing is chew “proof ". We have heard stories of dogs chewing through light weight chain, 2 x 4's and cement bricks....nothing is chew proof. Our material is the most durable material used in the market place that is safe for your dog. Aramid fabrics, such as Kevlar cannot be used in dog products because although the threads will not break, they tend to become unraveled and if ingested cannot be digested by dogs, and can lead to death. Are your dog toys “Chew proof”?
Our material is the toughest material available for plush dog toys that is safe for your dog. All our toys are intended as interactive play toys and not chew toys. Due to the small surface area and seams inherent in a toy, it is impossible to create a plush toy that is “truly” chew proof. Always monitor your dogs’ playtime to prevent any unscheduled activities such as fill or squeakers being removed.
